B. Fauser and R. Reijo awarded the IVI Foundation International Prize
The IVI Foundation Prize (Premio Fundación IVI), which is a double award, was presented at the 4th IVI International Congress. Sponsored by MSD, there is a prize fund of 25,000 euros for each award.
The prize is awarded to the most relevant scientific career in reproductive medicine, in both medical and basic research, with objective criteria which evaluate the level of impact of the works published by the author in the last five years.
The 4th FIVI Prize for medical research in reproductive medicine has been awarded to professor Bart CJM Fauser for his works on endocrinology of human reproduction. A professor of reproductive medicine at Utrecht University who has published more than 300 scientific articles, he is the first author in the world to have described new advances in the induction of ovulation.
The 4th FIVI Prize for basic research in reproductive medicine has gone to Renee A Reijo Pera for her career of research into the creation of synthetic gametes from pluripotent stem cells.
Director of the Centre for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Education at Stanford University since 2007, she has received numerous awards for her work, including the American Stem Cell Research Foundation award.
Given the distinguished path that these prizes have already travelled, and the level of the professionals to whom they have been awarded, professors at the Universities of Yale, Vanderbilt, Utrecht, Stanford and Brussels, these awards from IVI hope to become Nobel Prizes for reproductive medicine.
